The Times Diary: A supremely slight regret

The Times

What a tangled web we weave. Baroness Hale of Richmond, former president of the Supreme Court, says she now regrets the infamous “spider brooch” she wore while overturning Boris Johnson’s prorogation of parliament two years ago. “I often wear a brooch — usually a creature — to liven up our normally quite sober dress,” Hale, left, writes in the new edition of the Supreme Court Yearbook. “I should have foreseen that the public and the media would look for a hidden message.” Her remorse, it seems, only runs so deep. She is about to release her own book, the cover of which shows her wearing that very same brooch. The title of this memoir? Spider Woman.
