  • Just in time for #VeteransDay, over 60 veterans who work at the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office received Veterans Pins as a special recognition from the County of San Diego. Thank you to all the Veterans for your service and sacrifice. A special message from DA Summer Stephan: I want to pause to acknowledge and show appreciation for all the veterans who have served our country in the armed forces. I am grateful to the brave servicemembers who sacrifice to defend our freedom. Our country is built on the generations of Americans who have put country over self and in so many instances have given the ultimate sacrifice for our safety and liberty. In the DA’s Office alone, we have over 60 veterans who have chosen to continue their calling for service in our office. We are so proud to have them on our team. It’s truly special that the Chief of our Bureau Jorge Duran and our Assistant District Attorney Dwain Woodley are veterans. To the members of the DA Family who served and serve our nation in the U.S. military, I thank you for your service. Happy Veterans Day. -Summer #ThankYouVeterans #ThankYouForYourService #VeteransDay #HappyVeteransDay

  • This is a very informative report from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce on the devastating impact of crime on small and large businesses, the safety of their employees, customers and the community at large. Our office, the San Diego County District Attorney's Office, is fighting this fight every day to keep everyone safe despite being left with weaker laws and tools to fully address this problem. You can read more of District Attorney Summer Stephan's thoughts on this topic on PAGE 10 of the report, which is pictured here. • In honor of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month #AAPImonth, which is observed throughout the month of May, we are featuring stories of DA employees, what inspired them to pursue a career in public service and their contributions at the DA’s Office. Meet Chief of the Appellate and Training Division Linh Lam, who began working at the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office in 2006 as a Deputy District Attorney. She is currently the Chief of the Appellate and Training Division, which provides support to our Administration and line deputies, including work in writs and appeals, legal research and analysis, policies, ethics, legislation, legal education and training, and records requests. Read more about what inspired Linh to pursue career in law enforcement at the DA’s Office, below. What inspired you to choose a career in law enforcement/at the DA’s Office?  “My parents were victims of an armed robbery, and their experience with the criminal justice system left much to be desired. It made me realize that representation by people of diverse background in law enforcement is critical to the community’s access to justice. Without people of diverse background at all levels of the criminal justice system, from police to prosecutors to judges, those most in need of justice may not have access to it.” What is your favorite part of the job?  “I love working with the great people at the DA’s Office. It’s always a good day when I get to work with smart people who do their best to ensure that we protect victims and prevent crime.” What does Asian American and Pacific Islander Month mean to you/why is it important to you? “AAPI Month recognizes the history, culture, struggles, achievements, and contributions of Asian Americans and Pacific Islander Americans in the United States. Only through this recognition of AAPI and other persons of diverse background can we work towards the goal of equality and equity for all people.” Read more #AAPIstories here: https://lnkd.in/gUFasN-3
